  1. Hi Nick, Pleased to have the link to today’s programme. I’m struck by your comment concerning Ben Britten’s music. When I was in the Vlth form, long ago, I commented to the Director of Music I found I lost interest in Britten’s music after the first few bars! I’m afraid the Purcell theme here (1945) rather fits that. I would say I rather like his “Sea Interludes” (1944/45). His harshest critics suggest it was all downhill after “Gloriana” (1953). I’m sure my feelings arise from a lack of musical appreciation!

    1. Hi Andrew,
I’ve always struggled with his music, we can’t like everything, can we? I am with you on the Interludes, that’s about as much as I can handle. I’ve tried, I really have, but I find it almost unremittingly miserable!
BUT his piano concerto is quite fun – but probably only because it sounds more like Prokofiev.
One of my issues with him is that he is very disparaging about some of my favourite composers, like Brahms, e.g.
The station doesn’t always put up the programme on Listen Again. You can hear it on Sundays at 10am, repeated Wednesdays 10pm.
